A milestone has been reached with the arrival of the vessel Maersk Seroja Enam at Port Botany, the largest container ship to visit Australia.

With a capacity of 8540 TEU, and overall length of 316m, the Seroja Enam entered Port on Monday 21st November and berthed at the Patrick container terminal, making it the largest container vessel to call Port Botany to date.

NSW Ports worked with both Maersk and Patrick to ensure the vessel arrived safely and was efficiently serviced once alongside.

Having arrived from New Zealand, the vessel collected 1800 empty containers whilst in port before departing at 22.00 on the 22nd November to travel to its next destination in North Asia.

While in Port, NSW Ports presented the Captain of the vessel with a plaque to commemorate its maiden voyage into Port Botany.

NSW Ports expects to see these larger container vessels visit Port Botany in the future. Container vessel sizes visiting Port Botany are increasing due to the steady increase in the international container freight task and the consolidation of freight by shipping lines to achieve economies of scale.

Port Botany is well placed to accommodate these larger vessels, with suitable infrastructure and deep water.

NSW Ports is pleased to be able to welcome vessels of this size to facilitate trade, to service the needs of the people and businesses of New South Wales and Australia.
