Hosted by the NSW Athletic League, the “Bay Gift” 2017 sprint carnival, was held at Hensley Athletic Field, Eastgardens on Sunday 2nd April. NSW Ports was proud to support the event as Gold Sponsors, securing naming rights to the Women’s Gift event.

With significant prize money on offer, the event attracted a high quality field of competitors from around the country. Over its history, the race has attracted some of the world’s best runners including British athlete Lynford Christie, American track and field sprinter Maurice Greene and Olympic gold medallists Cathy Freeman and Nova Peris.

NSW Ports CEO Marika Calfas was on hand to make the presentation of prizes to the eventual winner and place-getters in the women’s gift, as well as present prizes and gifts to junior competitors on the day. The event was won by Rachael Carnegie from the ACT. Second place went to Nikki Vernardos from QLD, and Chloe Boston from NSW took out third.

The Bay Gift has a long association with the Botany area, being first held at Sir Joseph Banks Park in the late 1800’s. It is considered by runners, trainers and officials throughout Australia as the jewel in the crown of NSW athletics

NSW Ports has an objective “to be a good corporate citizen that employees and investors can be proud of” and support of local events such as this goes to achieving this goal.
