NSW Ports has been awarded Sustainability Advantage Silver Partner status in celebration of its significant environmental achievements and commitment to championing decarbonisation and clean energy.

Sustainability Advantage, a business support initiative of the NSW Government’s Office of Energy and Climate Change, recognises organisations that embed sustainability into their everyday practices.

NSW Ports CEO Marika Calfas said the awarding of Silver Partner status celebrated the company’s commitment to sustainability and leadership role in driving sustainable practices and outcomes.

“Sustainability is essential not only to our business but to the success of the industries and communities with which we work,” she said. “Our Silver Partnership recognises the work we have done to date and our ongoing commitment to sustainable outcomes with employees, suppliers, customers, stakeholders and the wider industry.

“As shown in NSW Ports’ new Sustainability Strategy, we have the planning and management systems in place to support sustainable practices and are committed to a process of continuous improvement, for the benefit of current and future generations.

"We all have an important role to play in actively working toward a better future for the environment, the economy and our society."

NSW Ports’ Sustainability Strategy, released in September 2022, features company targets of net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025 and 100 per cent renewable electricity use and a commitment to work with customers across its port precincts in the implementation of their own decarbonisation roadmaps.

Sustainability Advantage’s awarding of Silver Partner status also recognises NSW Ports’ initiatives such as undertaking climate change risk assessments, promoting sustainability goals with staff and external stakeholders, establishing transparent mechanisms to measure energy, waste and water usage and implementing reporting against initiatives.
