Sustainability Strategy 2025

NSW Ports has launched its 2025 Sustainability Strategy, headlined by four key Sustainability Priorities which ensure a continued focus on the environment, resilience, community and sustainable growth.

The release of the 2025 Strategy and its key priorities follows the completion of the 2022 Sustainability Strategy, which saw NSW Ports achieve all the initiatives set out in the three-year strategy.

The 2025 Strategy priorities are:

  1. Championing environmental protection and decarbonisation
  2. Building supply chain and business resilience
  3. Fostering thriving communities and workplaces
  4. Stewarding sustainable trade growth

These priorities have been informed by a double materiality assessment which tested impacts against NSW Ports’ strategic and risk frameworks, stakeholder feedback, regulatory obligations and global benchmarks such as Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards (AASB S1 and S2) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

NSW Ports CEO Marika Calfas said the successful completion of the initiatives in the previous Strategy had provided a strong platform for the business in achieving its long term sustainability objectives.

“This new Strategy builds on these foundations—ensuring we maintain high standards while pursuing new initiatives that drive impact and help us meet our sustainability objectives,” Ms Calfas said.

“Importantly, it outlines our plan to invest in initiatives that drive long-term value, effectively manage risks, enhance resilience and promote responsible growth.”

The 2025 Sustainability Strategy approach emphasises:

  • Continued delivery of existing sustainability initiatives embedded in the business.
  • Maintaining Net-Zero Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions while engaging tenants on our Scope 3 emissions.
  • Enhancing resilience through cyber security controls and port disruption monitoring.
  • Strengthening sustainability requirements in procurement and port developments.
  • Developing and sharing social impact indicators for our community engagement, sponsorships and partnerships to maximise positive outcomes.
