NSW Ports has launched its 2022 Community Grants Program to help make local neighbourhoods better places to live, work, learn and play.

Not-for-profit organisations and community groups may apply for one-off grants of between $5000 and $25,000 for local projects, services and initiatives that benefit the communities surrounding Port Botany, Port Kembla and the Enfield and Cooks River intermodal terminals.

NSW Ports CEO Marika Calfas said NSW Ports is a proud and active member of the communities in which it operates.

“We’re keen to support community groups and not-for-profits with innovative project ideas, programs or initiatives that will help our local communities thrive,” she said.

NSW Ports’ 2022 grant program will support projects that can deliver positive outcomes in the areas of community participation, the provision of community infrastructure, and environment and sustainability.

Ms Calfas said NSW Ports’ inaugural Community Grants Program in 2021 supported 24 local groups in Sydney and Wollongong doing beneficial and sustainable work for their streets, parks, sports clubs and schools.

“Our 2021 grants included programs that helped Banksmeadow Public School upgrade its reading resources for kids and provided iPads and laptops for students at La Perouse Public School to improve digital literacy,” Ms Calfas said.

“Community Cancer Link’s community grant helped their organisation purchase vital medical equipment so that nurses could deliver at-home care for cancer patients in the Illawarra region.”

NSW Port’s trade gateways operate 24/7 and are essential to the state’s economy, contributing $13.6 billion annually to Gross State Product and supporting about 65,000 jobs. About 33 per cent of employees at Port Botany live locally, while Port Kembla’s workforce is comprised of about 99 per cent of residents from the Illawarra.

“We’re immensely proud to continue to invest in the local communities who invest in us, and by working together, we can keep building strong, inclusive, thriving communities,” Ms Calfas said.

“Our 2022 Community Grants Program will do even more to support the people and groups who are making a positive difference.”
